Tennis abounds at The Woodlands Tennis Center, located at 2301 N. Millbend, with something for every tennis enthusiast. The outdoor tennis area offers 17 hard courts with the opportunity to play two different playing surfaces: Laykold hard courts and Har-tru clay courts. The 30,000 square foot Tennis Pavilion features four air conditioned courts.
The Woodlands Women's Tennis Association
The Woodlands Women's Tennis Association welcomes you to the Club and invites you to join our association.
The WWTA is comprised of some 200 women who simply enjoy tennis and have found the best way to stay active in their sport is through membership in the WWTA.
The association has something to offer both the recreational and competitive player. Events are scheduled throughout the year and include member play days, mixed doubles, member-guest events, tournaments and socials.
Doubles leagues play is very popular and membership in the WWTA is a requirement for participants. The WWTA has one league coordinator for each of the leagues. Coordinators represent country club members in league matters.
Leagues play in the spring and fall, at home as well as away. The leagues coordinated through the WWTA are the Houston Ladies Tennis Association (HLTA) played on Monday, North Country played on Tuesday or Thursday depending on the level played, and Jack Rabbit played on Friday.
WWTA members also participate in the USTA spring/summer league. This leagues features singles and doubles play for levels from 2.5-5.0. There is also a senior league available to those members age 50 and above.
The WWTA encourages members to actively participate in tennis tournaments, interclub events, league, etc. However, the level of commitment is ultimately up to you.
Membership dues are $20.00 annually. If you would like more information or wish to join, please call Sharon Callahan, Membership Chairman at 281-363-3953 or e-mail her at sharonacat@comcast.net. We hope you will sign up. There is a lot of great tennis to play and many good friendships to be made!
The Woodlands Men's Tennis Association
As President of The Woodlands Men's Tennis Association, I would like to welcome you to The Woodlands Country Club. Please consider joining us for Tennis.
Here is an outline of our program:
Saturday Morning Men's League For most members, this action is the heart of our activities and our most visible program. It is men's doubles, currently 4 teams of 16 each, playing 6 times this Fall and 6 times in the Spring. We guarantee each player a minimum number of times to play. Players are paired and compete at lines 1-5 based on skill level, resulting in good competitive matches. All participants are guaranteed a minimum number of matches, assuming availability. At the last matches of each season we have a lunch and provide awards to the winning team. A fee of $20 and $25 applies for Fall and Spring, respectively.
North Suburban Men's League We support and field team entries in this interclub league. Currently we are soliciting participants in all flights. Interested members should contact League Director Bob Lee for participation in any of the flights.
Weekday Retirees Monday-Friday, 8:30 A.M., the Woodlands Men's League, coordinated by Seth Kennedy takes place, weather permitting. Primarily senior players are paired and play on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations needed.
In addition, Bill Ward oversees and schedules men's doubles matches for the more skilled younger participants.
One-Day Tournaments On occasional Saturdays and holidays, we hold one-day fun tournaments, under a variety of formats. They include King of the Hill, the Turkey Trot (Shoot), Super Bowl, The Oldies, Sneaks & Cleats to name a few. And not to be overlooked, we join with our ladies for the annual Valentine's Day Tournament.
Junior Clay Court Championships This is an annual event we conduct every June, hosting 400+ tennis players, boys and girls, ages 8-18. Sanctioned and overseen by the USTA, the participants compete in a variety of skill levels, both singles and doubles. Youngsters from as far away as the Valley, Louisiana, Dallas and Abilene come in order to play on the clay courts and to earn points in their quest to move up in the Texas Tennis Association rankings. Funds generated from this event are used to defray our operating expenses and as a contribution to charities.
Tennis, sure. But more comaraderie! If all we wanted to do was to play tennis and leave, we'd save alot of money playing in the parks. Yes, the clay is important to us and to others who have ailing knees as seems common by age 60. But beyond the physical plant, we belong and play here because there are people here with whom we have much in common. Every second Wednesday of each month, a group of primarily retired/senior players gather for a "Shakespearean" luncheon at a local restaurant. As such, we see belonging to the Woodlands Country Club and playing tennis as a meeting ground for friendships. It is a goal of the WMTA to foster these friendships.
If you would like to join, please call me or pick up an application at The Tennis Pro Shop!
